Ilyas is explicitly named among the messengers in Surah al-Saffat. He asks why his people invoke Ba‘l and leave Allah, their Lord and the Lord of their forefathers. The brief exchange identifies the centre of his mission without providing an ordinary biography of childhood, schooling, marriage, or travel. The Qur’an’s portrait should remain the starting point even where later historical identifications are familiar.
02
Rejection, sincere servants, and remembered honour
The passage records rejection, makes an exception for Allah’s sincere servants, and preserves a remembrance of peace. It identifies him among the believing servants. A separate list in Surah al-An‘am names him among those guided. These are statements of honour and belief, not a documented royal succession or parent-child connection to another name appearing nearby in the list.
03
How the tree treats uncertain identifications
Ilyas is often associated with Elijah in comparative writing, but that English identification does not provide a complete Qur’anic family. Nor does it justify merging him with the distinct Ilyas ibn Mudar in Muhammad’s historical ancestral line. The atlas labels that ancestor separately. Claims about Ilyas remaining alive, a particular grave, or a detailed link to Al-Yasa are not facts established by the passages attached to this profile.
What the sources leave open
A precise hometown, family list, identification of a grave, or story that he remains alive is not established by the verses used here.
