01 · TAKE IT AT YOUR PACE

Keep kindness and respect

The Qur’an teaches gratitude and kindness toward parents, including when they oppose faith, while not obeying a demand to associate partners with Allah. Choose thoughtful words and timing when discussing your beliefs. You do not need to reject your ancestry, language, or every cultural custom to belong.

Do I need an Arabic name?

An Arabic name is not a requirement for entering Islam. A name with a meaning incompatible with Islamic belief may need changing; ask a qualified teacher about your particular name. Do not assume a new name is necessary simply because your existing one is from another language.

Your situation deserves individual advice

Marriage, children, inheritance, and serious family conflict can involve circumstances that a general webpage cannot settle. Seek a trustworthy qualified scholar for religious guidance and appropriate local professional support when needed. If disclosure puts you in danger, prioritise your safety and seek confidential help.
